LAND STEWARDSHIP
CONSTRUCTION

Founded in 2004, we’re a team of artists, scientists, and builders who care deeply about the places where we live and work. From small backyard gardens to entire watersheds, we help restore and tend to landscapes with the hope of creating a healthier, more beautiful future for everyone.

About Us

  • Plant Nursery
We cultivate and sell "more-than-organic" native, edible, and medicinal plants at our retail center and for custom grow clients. Many of these plants are sourced from local genetic populations or varieties specifically suited to thrive in our local climate. We also offer direct plantings out of our nursery.

    Art and Design
We are an artist-led business that has developed our own creative process over the past two decades. We build site models, hand draw, paint, and sculpt concepts in our studio to envision the projects we build.

    Landscape Construction
We specialize in building outdoor spaces of all sizes, from small residential gardens to expansive public parks and ecological restoration projects. By using regionally appropriate plants and materials, we create spaces that are functional, beautiful, and environmentally responsible.

    Landscape Stewardship
We are committed to the ongoing care and management of outdoor spaces. Our stewardship efforts focus on enhancing ecosystems, fostering biodiversity, and maintaining the health of the landscapes we oversee.

    Ecological Consulting
We offer master planning , ecological monitoring, spatial analysis, expert witness testimony, and more. We frequently bring in outside expertise to ensure our clients have the specialists they need for their projects.

*We are not New York State licensed design professionals and do not offer services that require professional licensure. Some projects we work on require these services and in such cases our clients contract directly with trusted engineering, architectural and surveying companies .

  • Founded in 2004 by Bryan Quinn, One Nature’s earliest projects were art and design competitions, ecological sub-consulting gigs, and small garden installations. From the start, our work has been informed by a global perspective and grounded in respect for local wisdom, culture, and habitats of our bioregion. Since then, through teamwork and support from our community, One Nature has grown into a full-service, ecologically regenerative hub for regional institutions, governments, and people.

Our name—One Nature—reflects a simple, yet profound belief: people and ecosystems are not separate. A sustainable future depends on recognizing and strengthening those connections through the care of the landscapes they are built upon.

Today, we’re a dynamic, collaborative team dedicated to building a more sustainable, kinder, and interconnected world. With decades of experience, a strong ethical foundation, and a deep commitment to ecological and social integration, we strive to bring that vision to life in every project we undertake.

  • At One Nature, we help create living spaces that support both people and the environment. Our approach is personal and adaptable, focusing on hands-on work, thoughtful planning, and long-term care. Whether it’s a backyard garden, a city park, or a larger master planning project, we start by learning about each place and each client’s vision.

From there, we develop practical, site-specific strategies. That could mean planting native species, earthwork, or improving how water moves through a space. Some projects focus on restoring lost ecosystems; others simply make a home garden more vibrant and welcoming. No two sites are the same, so we approach each with flexibility and care.

For those who want to take a more active role, we offer garden coaching. Our garden coach can provide guidance on planting, pruning, soil health, and seasonal care—giving you the tools and knowledge to make your own space thrive.

We also have a plant nursery that sells a selection of regionally appropriate native, edible and medicinal plants through our retail program. These plants are chosen to support pollinators, biodiversity, and long-term resilience. Whether you’re a home gardener or a professional, we can help you find the right options for your project.

And because gardens are the slowest form of art, we stay involved as needed—offering stewardship services to help maintain healthy, thriving spaces well into the future.

At its core, our work is about helping people connect with the places they care about, while creating healthier environments for everyone.

  • We reject the greenwashing that’s become all too common in landscape construction. Sustainability isn’t about trendy labels or surface-level fixes—it’s about long-term ecological health, material responsibility, and social equity that holds up over generations.

We focus on using bioregionally sourced materials like locally quarried bluestone, hand-gathered fieldstone, native hardwoods such as oak and black locust, and regional gravel. These choices reduce carbon emissions while shaping a distinctive, grounded aesthetic: structured yet expressive, restrained but alive. Our work integrates closely with surrounding buildings, creating unified spaces that function as part of both the natural and built environments.

Planting native, edible, and medicinal species is central to what we do. We aim to bring back some of the ecological diversity and dynamism that existed in this region before large-scale land disruption. That means restoring habitat, creating microclimates to help buffer climate change, and occasionally using assisted migration—introducing plants adapted to future conditions in our region.

We approach invasive species with a clear-eyed, realistic mindset. While we work to reduce them, we recognize that many have become permanent parts of the ecosystem. Our focus is on supporting native plant communities while acknowledging that perfect removal isn’t always possible or beneficial.

When appropriate, we conduct botanical inventories—qualitative and sometimes quantitative—to track plant diversity and habitat health before and after project work. These assessments guide our approach and offer clients real information about the impact of their landscapes.

Our commitment extends beyond ecology. As a certified B Corp, we support an equitable workplace where many of our team members identify as women or non-binary—still rare in our industry. We prioritize minority- and women-owned vendors and recognize affordable housing as an essential piece of sustainability. We actively steer new development projects toward regenerative or less damaging outcomes whenever possible.

We never use chemical fertilizers or herbicides. Everything we do relies on organic practices that protect soil, water, and public health.
